To survive, Russia must become a superpower, i.e. establish its own mega-trend, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on November 19 speaking at the 20th International Congress “Health as the Basis of Human Potential: Problems and Solutions” that took place in Saint Petersburg on November 18-22.
Kurginyan noted that, despite any negative sides of the Special Military Operation, it is a situation when the Russians “made a move towards sovereignty having realized that they were being permanently eliminated.”
The motion towards sovereignty began in 2007 after the Russian elite was told, “you can integrate into the West, but only by parts,” the philosopher said. As a response, President of Russia Vladimir Putin’s speech at the Munich Security Conference took place the same year.
In fact, the Russian elite replied that it was only ready to integrate into Europe in whole and that it could not break up the Russian Federation for the sake of integrating into Europe as it believed that Russia would then be destroyed completely. This reaction was due to both certain existential peculiarities of the Russian leader and the understanding among the elite that “first they will accept us by parts and then eliminate us all,” Kurginyan noted. Thus, this offer was rejected.
“Still, I have one question: if integration into NATO and the EU was discussed, what kind of sovereignty could that be?” the political scientist asked. He explained that a country shares its sovereignty if it becomes part of a macro-community.
Kurginyan explained that a country can either join an existing mega-trend or established its own one. “But we keep trying to join the existing mega-trend. What kind of sovereignty is that?” the analyst asked.
According to the philosopher, such countries as India and China still expect that Russia can offer a new path. “If there is anything they expect from the Russians, it is a new outlook,” the philosopher stressed.
“That something fundamentally new will be said. And an alternative mega-trend will appear such as the one that appeared under communism,” Kurginyan described these expectations.
The political scientist stressed that in this context it is irrelevant whether communism was better or worse. Communism declared that “we are different.” That all the countries were moving one way and Russia was moving another way inviting all the rest to join it. “This is when a new mega-trend appears along with sovereignty to its full extent,” Kurginyan noted.
Political scientist stressed that “the national state-based kind of sovereignty is a thing of the past, and the national state itself, too.” In the future, only superpowers will be sovereign, be believes.
“If you want to be sovereign you have to become a superpower. It is uncomfortable and expensive, but it gives sovereignty,” Kurginyan explained the pattern of the future.
The worst thing for Russia is that on the long run Russia cannot afford subordinate relations with another country. As an example the analyst noted that our current relations with China are normal, but becoming China’s younger brother is not a good option for the future.
“We will have to defend our sovereignty along with our superpower status. In the coming 20-30 years these will become synonyms,” Kurginyan stressed.
