“A slow sweet catastrophe” is unfolding before our eyes, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said speaking at the 20th International Congress “Health as the Basis of Human Potential: Problems and Solutions” in Saint Petersburg, Rossa Primavera News Agency reports.
According to Kurginyan, the problem is that people cannot react to the catastrophe because it is slow and sweet.
The political scientist believes that today “everything that promoted progress as something saving has been removed from the highest display” giving way to “some guys, fellows who seized the display as well as everything else.”
Kurginyan reminded that, according to the heritage of renowned German social scientist, philosopher, historian, political economist Max Weber, modernization is only possible based on traditions, “there is no modernization without tradition as a basis, and the primary goal of modernization is to actualize and heat up traditions.” However, the first thing attempted during perestroika was to break the tradition of the Russian people. The political scientist reminded the words of a major architect of perestroika, Gaidar, who, among others, campaigned for Westernization.
Kurginyan quoted a renowned perestroika philosopher Anatoly Rakitov, an agent of KGB general Filipp Bobkov, who said that “the cultural core must be changed towards Westernization.”
Thus, “Westernization was attempted instead of modernization, and it certainly ended with a catastrophe,” which was discussed by Fukuyama, who declared the end of history, and “Huntington, who said that we were returning to conflicts between civilizations and that progress was nonexistent.” Progress was cancelled, and “everything that promoted the saving nature of progress was removed from the highest display.”
Then it was declared that with certain “domestic traditions no Modernity is necessary,” and history is not necessary as well, but we should “make our traditional circle dances, and everything will be fine.”
Actually, the ruling class, having realized that “if history exists it is dead,” decided to cancel history: if “development of Man conflicts with the class structure of society let us stop developing Man in order to keep this structure.”
A deliberate degradation of Man began, and not only “domestically but also at a wider scale,” unfolding a slow sweet catastrophe to which “people cannot react because it is slow and sweet.”
