Kurginyan tells why belief in History exists in Russia

A religious belief in History, which moved Russia throughout its Soviet period, is based on everything that formed the Russian society, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on November 7 in his congratulation video address on the 108th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution of 1917.

According to the philosopher, in the history of humanity, the first phase of the belief in the God was replaced with a belief in intelligence, the Goddess of Intelligence, after the French Revolution.

“Then a disappointment in intelligence came, and it became clear that intelligence did not cover everything, that it did not lead to the truth, and that it was rather fierce itself. And then, in the third phase of this action, they said, ‘We believe in History.’ Kant believed in intelligence and Hegel believed in history. And Marx, of course, believed in history as no one else did; Hegel believed that it would end, while Marx believed that it was ‘the path from the kingdom of necessity to the kingdom of freedom,’” Sergey Kurginyan explained.

According to him, the Bolshevist belief in History that “flared in Russia” in the 20th century was completely determined by Russia’s peculiarities including the Orthodox Church, the heritage of Byzantium, and much earlier things that are never described directly but can be felt, for example, in the Russian church songs and Russian admiration of beauty.

“Contemplation in colors, symphony etc. are all Russian things closely connected with pantheism and, of course, the Russian nature, these birch groves, rivers, landscapes, etc.,” the political scientist noted.

He indicated that the stages of the formation of the Russian society, which was ready to religiously believe in History, have not been properly investigated, but they are often substituted by the Norman theory strongly misinterpreting this stage of our past.

“Let’s see: the common thing for the mainstream West and Russia as an alternative West is that they are all Christian. And the difference is that they have Catholicism and Protestantism while we have the Orthodox Church. The common thing is Greco-Roman Antiquity. And the difference is that the Greek Antiquity and the Roman one are absolutely different,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement stressed.

He also noted that the joint movement of the West and Russia as its alternative makes it possible for humanity to develop and acquire something new.
