Kurginyan urges to consider the meaning of the Great October Socialist Revolution

15.11.2025, Moscow.

On the anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, we should not reiterate positive or negative clichés, but we must proceed with our understanding of this event, its scale, and its connection to the future, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on November 7 in his congratulation address on the 108th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution of 1917.

“It seems to me, and this is particularly important when we are celebrating the anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, that the most important thing is to avoid going around in circles and repeating clichés (positive or negative ones, it does not matter); instead, we should progress in our understanding of what is taking place and its scale,” Kurginyan said.

The political scientist explained why “clichés” are not suitable for this holiday.

“But we cannot endlessly express congratulations on what is non-existent and what is highly problematic among varying statements. Trivial congratulations make no sense in this context, even if they are highly expressive. And it is beyond any doubt that I believe the Great October Socialist Revolution to be one of the greatest events in the history of the world,” he added.

According to Kurginyan, the most important thing that took place in Russia on November 7, 1917 affecting the destiny of the world was that an alternative historical humanity appeared. However, neither in the Soviet period nor in other intellectual traditions the Great October was ever considered from this point of view.

Kurginyan believes that a really historical humanity is only a humanity that at its highest levels (metaphysical, existential, essential) “introduces History as something absolute inside its being, as something good and definitely pivotal and fundamental.”

According to Kurginyan, historical are nations which, according to their religion, expect a great historical event in the future such as the Second Coming of Christ, a paradise on earth, the coming of the Messiah, or something else. Therefore, inside certain nations “this expectation is passionate and tense, and it is inside their culture, in the core of their being…”
