Russia and the West are close, yet very different worlds, with different worldviews and perceptions, philosopher, political scientist, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on November 7 in his video address on the anniversary of the Great October Social Revolution.
“Why Russia and the West are simultaneously very conflicting and close worlds? Both are Christian. But Russia, the heir to Byzantium, and Orthodoxy, and the West, shaped by Catholicism – are very different. And ultimately, they define differently their worldviews, perceptions, dreams, and everything else,” Kurginyan stated.
The philosopher explained that both the West and Russia are populated by historical peoples, that is, peoples who, in accordance with their religion, await some great historical event in the future – the Second Coming, heaven on earth, the arrival of the Messiah, or something else.
According to Kurginyan, the West represents the core of historical humanity. This part of humanity aligned itself with capitalism and, at a certain point, achieved great heights. However, World War I put an end to the West’s belief in a bright historical perspective. This belief was replaced by “something dark and ultimately fascist, for the foundation of fascism (and this must also be understood) is a passionate anti-historicism.”
“During and after World War I, the West became completely disillusioned with itself and with history. The foundation of historical humanity began to crumble!” Kurginyan notes.
And it was then, in 1917, that an alternative historical humanity emerged onto the world stage. The Bolsheviks offered the world a different path, distinct from capitalism, and they religiously believed in history.
“The important thing is that it gave rise to something new! And, again, something enormous, essential, and defining was in this process. It was the Bolsheviks who declared that they believed in History, and believed in it religiously.”
The Russian Revolution became a revolution in defense of History, an uprising of an alternative historical humanity against Western anti-historicism, concluded the leader of the Essence of Time movement.
