Kurginyan: Trump is a hostage to the elite groups that brought him to power

27.10.2025, Moscow.

For the first time, US power is so heterogeneous, philosopher, political scientist, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on October 17 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.

It is the first time when we are witnessing a governmental structure in the US with so many internal divisions,” Kurginyan explained.

He recalled that the elite group that came to power with US President Donald Trump includes former US Democrats. For example, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert Kennedy Jr. are former Democrats who stand apart from others.

The second faction in this power structure is represented by neoconservatives, who hate the Third World and everything else, and want to rule,” Kurginyan said. According to him, it is a certain alliance, formed by neoconservatives and the Cuban anti-communist lobby within the depths of Trumpism.

The third faction are supporters of Trump’s campaign slogan “Make America Great Again” (MAGA). The forth group includes Trump’s family and friends, and the fifth group includes multibillionaires such as Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, and others.

All these elite groups need Trump, and he needs them, so Trump, as a Byzantine leader, is a hostage to these groups and must maintain balance. Beyond these elite groups, there is also what Trump calls the “deep state.” This includes the defense and intelligence agencies, Wall Street, and others.

This “deep state” has a specific attitude toward Trump, it does not like him. Thus, Trump is under pressure from this “deep state,” but he cannot rely on his own support base, because it is disunited.

And this whole construct needs Trump, and he needs them. He can’t break this balance. He’s its hostage. He is forced to maintain a balance, like some Byzantine leader, in a very divided (more divided than ever) power arrangement,” Kurginyan said.

Kurginyan recalled what happened at a meeting at the Quantico military base in Virginia. On September 30, nearly a thousand high-ranking military officials from around the world were summoned there. Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth and US President Donald Trump addressed them. Trump said the military could applaud him if they wanted. However, those present did not do it.

“Did you see how the army received him? He addressed them. He said: ‘Whenever you like, you can applaud.’ They were silent. He said, ‘I can fire any of you who oppose me.’ They were silent. The army looks at him, pardon the expression, like a lion at a warm dung. US Army formally salutes him and exists totally separately,” Kurginyan explained.

The intelligence services look at him the same way. Wall Street looks at him the same way. The old oil lobby (say, the Rockefellers and the like) looks at him the same way. The media looks at him the same way. So, he’s being pressured by all of this. And inside, he has this divided groups,” he added.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro “fairly quickly realized where within this loose elite group that came to power with Trump were his supporters, who he could reach an agreement with.” Therefore, Maduro reached an agreement with MAGA and resolved all issues through negotiations with them. However, since this group is very divided, an agreement with one faction does not mean an agreement with another.

Earlier, the US deployed the helicopter carrier USS Iwo Jima, a warship carrying several thousand marines, to the Caribbean Sea, accompanied by three destroyers and one submarine under the pretext of fighting drug cartels.
