Kurginyan: Western science confirms the Eastern concept of vital force

26.09.2025, Aleksandrovskoye.

Contemporary cutting-edge Western research in theoretical biology confirms the Eastern concepts regarding the existence of the vital force, philosopher, political scientist, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan wrote in his article Responsibility published in the Zavtra newspaper on August 21.

Kurginyan named “the existence of some kind of vital force as something quite real” as one of the important but unresolved issues. He noted that the concept of this vital force was previously dismissed as “the nonsense of so-called ‘vitalists.‘”

Western medicine and physiology reject the existence of specific vital force. Its existence is recognized in the East, including China, where it is called Qi force,’” Kurginyan emphasized. He noted that both East and West have other names and concepts for this force, although the Western concepts are not widely publicized.

In the West, there was only one leading scholar who insisted that such vital force does exist. His name is Wilhelm Reich,” the philosopher recalled.

Kurginyan emphasized that Reich was a communist who was first expelled from the German Communist Party and later persecuted by the Nazis. “He was then subjected to persecution in the US, where he fled from the Nazis. Zigmund Freud’s daughter Anna was particularly energetic in her attacks on Reich,” the political scientist noted.

Moreover, in the US, Reich was not only persecuted but also subjected to pressure from official authorities. He was not only imprisoned, but also had his books burned. Kurginyan emphasized that this happened in the USA.

Why did they burn it? Just because Reich insisted on this very vital force, called it the foundation of the cosmos, isolated particles of this vital force, which he called ‘orgone,’ and even tried to gather this force, as some believe – with some success?” the philosopher explained.

At the same time, Kurginyan acknowledged that there is a point of view “according to which everything Reich said is a total nonsense.” The political scientist noted that he himself does not believe this, but is willing to consider such a concept, although in that case “much too much remains to be extremely problematic.

The philosopher noted that Western medicine and physiology still do not consider the vital force as a concept.

“But if one opens any modern book or journal on theoretical biology – and then everything changes ‘exactly to the opposite. That is, this vital force is almost directly discussed,” Kurginyan emphasized.

He noted that he wasn’t talking about ancient Chinese treatises, but was referring to modern research in theoretical biology. “In the most advanced studies, so to speak. It would not seem possible. But it is there,” the philosopher pointed out.
