China intends to promote the high-quality development of broader cooperation among BRICS countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated on July 2, according to the Global Times.
According to Mao, Chinese Premier Li Qiang plans to attend the 17th BRICS Summit, which will take place in Brazil from July 5 to 8.
When asked about China’s expectations for the BRICS Summit, Mao emphasized that the BRICS cooperation mechanism offers a vital platform for solidarity and cooperation among developing countries. It represents an important force in building an equal and orderly multipolar world and advancing mutually beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, the diplomat noted.
Mao highlighted that this will be the first summit since the newest member, Indonesia, joined BRICS.
China looks forward to working with all parties to strengthen the BRICS strategic partnership, make meaningful contributions to defending multilateralism, promote common development, enhance global governance, and foster high-quality development of broader BRICS cooperation, Mao added.
