The delivery of Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile systems was a key topic of discussion between Russia and India, according to a statement of India’s Ministry of Defense on June 27 following a meeting between Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov in Qingdao, China.
This meeting was described as one of the most significant recent meetings between the defense ministers of two countries.
“The delivery of S-400 systems, the modernization of Su-30MKI aircraft, and the procurement of critical military equipment on a fast-track basis were among the key issues discussed,” the statement emphasized.
According to the ministry, Singh and Belousov held in-depth talks covering a broad range of topics, including the current geopolitical situation, cross-border terrorism, and India-Russia defense cooperation.
It was highlighted that during the meeting, Belousov emphasized the long-standing relationship between the two countries — a partnership that has stood the test of time. He also expressed solidarity with India following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
A terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 claimed the lives of 26 people, most of whom were tourists. India blamed Pakistan for the attack and soon launched strikes on terrorist bases in the neighboring country, which escalated into clashes between the two nations’ armed forces.
