The consolidation of Iranian society has intensified amid Israeli bombings, stated Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov in a comment to RIA Novosti on June 16.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in an interview with Fox News, suggested the possibility of regime change in Iran as a result of the military operation. “We are actually witnessing significant societal consolidation in Iran amid the ongoing bombings carried out by the Israeli side,” Peskov noted.
Operation “Rising Lion,” launched by the IDF on the night of June 13, included airstrikes on Iran’s military and nuclear facilities, including targets in Tehran, Natanz, and Fordow. The strikes resulted in the deaths of high-ranking military officials, including the Chief of the General Staff and the commander of the IRGC, as well as several scientists. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei called Israel’s actions a crime and vowed a “bitter and dreadful fate” for the aggressor. In response, the IRGC initiated Operation “True Promise 3” targeting sites within Israel.
In April 2024, Israel struck the Iranian consulate in Damascus, killing several officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Tehran responded by launching hundreds of drones and missiles at Israeli territory — marking Iran’s first direct attack on the Israeli state in decades.
Tensions between the two nations persist, centered around Iran’s nuclear program, which Israel views as a threat to its security. Russia and China continue to cooperate with the Iranian leadership in both economic and military spheres.
