“The tragedy in Odessa on May 2, 2014, became a turning point after which the residents of Donbass realized what awaited them under the power of the Kiev regime. They rose to fight against neo-Nazism and Banderites, defending their land, language, and future. Today, our warriors continue this struggle as part of the Special Military Operation,” said one of the event organizers to the correspondent.
Activists of the Essence of Time movement have held this memorial event annually since 2015; this year marked the 10th time.
The events of May 2, 2014, followed a state coup in Kiev in February 2014. Activists of the anti-Maidan resistance movement in Odessa set up a tent camp on Kulikovo Field. Soon after, a conflict broke out on Greek Square between the peaceful anti-Maidan activists and nationalist football fan groups known as “ultras.”

Later, neo-Nazis from other cities and Odessa residents, with complete police inaction, drove the anti-Maidan activists into the Trade Unions House, blocked the exits, and set it on fire. Those trying to escape were killed, including with firearms. As a result of the tragedy, 48 people died and more than 250 were injured. This crime has not been investigated to this day.
