A new satellite constellation, Gonets 2.0, consisting of 32 spacecraft in orbit, will provide communication for domestic drones across Russia, Roscosmos stated on March 21.
Andrey Manoylo, General Director of the Gonets Satellite System company, which is part of Roscosmos told this to Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov during a working meeting.
It is reported that the company is already actively working on integrating domestic satellite technologies for UAVs. The company’s CEO also presented the Gonets satellite modem, weighing only 89 grams. The size and weight of the modem allow it to be installed on various types of drones.
It is specified that the system has already been tested on a drone from the Geoscan company, which successfully transmitted control commands and tracked its trajectory via satellite channels.
Additionally, the system will be tested in Tomsk Region using both unmanned and manned aircraft.
