EU countries and the UK are incapable of negotiating on Ukraine

17.02.2025, New York.

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzya made a statement about the inability of the EU and the UK to resolve the Ukrainian conflict at a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York, the broadcast of which was published on the Telegram channel of the Russian Permanent Mission on February 17.

During his speech, the diplomat noted that the European Union states and the United Kingdom, which were guarantors of the Minsk agreements, had lost the ability to act as parties to future agreements on Ukraine.

According to him, these countries are blinded by “caveman Russophobia” and seek to harm Russia by using Ukrainian armed forces. “We do not know how long it will take to cure them and whether it is ever possible, but it is clear that they will not be able to be guarantors or even mediators,” the post said.

Today’s European elites, unfortunately, are basically incapable of thinking strategically and imagining any security equation involving Russia, because for many years, secretly or explicitly, they have been building exclusively anti-Russian political and military configurations,” Nebenzya emphasized.

The diplomat expressed doubt that such an approach will change in the foreseeable future, referring to the statements made at the Munich Security Conference.

He also noted that ceasefire and freezing the conflict without further steps cannot guarantee its settlement, which was demonstrated by the experience of the Minsk agreements.
