The strengthening of combat readiness by creating a unified information network for all branches and types of troops in the United States is discussed in the analytical review “DARPA: The Gray Cardinal of American Technology,” published on the Roscongress Foundation website on February 6.
The report, prepared by experts from the Roscongress Foundation, states that the share of DARPA – the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency of the US Department of Defense – in the total volume of state defense expenditures for the development of innovative military systems will reach 24.65%. This is the highest figure since 1998.
Specialists also emphasize that in 2025, the Pentagon’s focus will be on research in the field of information technology and communications. This will enhance the combat readiness of the army by creating a unified information infrastructure for all branches and types of US troops.
The report highlights that this process will occur under the auspices of the widespread use of artificial intelligence.
In the 2025 fiscal year, $397.2 million will be allocated for this research, which constitutes a quarter of the total funding for applied research. By the 2029 fiscal year, this amount will increase to 514.5 million.
The increase will be driven by the development of areas such as information protection in the digital space, artificial intelligence, and human-machine interaction.
Spending on these areas will grow by 29.5% by the 2029 fiscal year, reaching $240.5 million and $213.3 million, respectively.
In the “Artificial Intelligence and Human-Machine Interaction” sphere, technologies are being developed that will allow machines to become reliable assistants to humans.
Artificial intelligence will be able to understand human speech, collect and systematize data, and respond intelligently and critically to new and unexpected situations.
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, known as DARPA, is a military research agency of the US Department of Defense. Since its founding in 1958 in response to the launch of the first artificial satellite by the Soviet Union, DARPA has been responsible for the timely identification of new scientific ideas and promising research and development directions that can contribute to the advanced development of the US Army.
