Moscow and Tehran have agreed to cooperate in creating a payment infrastructure independent of third countries. This is stated in the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and Iran, signed on January 17, the Kremlin posted on its website.
The document says that the parties will develop interaction to create “a modern payment infrastructure independent of third countries,” as well as the transition to payments in national currencies and strengthening direct interbank cooperation between the countries.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian hold bilateral talks in the Kremlin on January 17. The signed treaty also provides for close cooperation between the parties in the issue of arms control.
