Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede announced his intention to achieve independence from Denmark. He said this in a New Year’s address on January 1.
Egede noted that cooperation with Denmark has not ensured equality and called for removing the “shackles of colonialism” in determining the country’s future and its partnership.
He emphasized that the decision for independence should be made by the entire population of Greenland.
Earlier, Trump said the USA needs to own Greenland because it is very important to the USA for Arctic logistics.
