The U.S. attack on Yemen was thwarted by the Ansar Allah movement, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saria wrote on December 31 on the movement’s Telegram channel.
According to him, the Houthis acted preemptively – and struck the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman.
Saria emphasized that it was a joint operation by the Yemeni armed forces’ navy, missile forces and UAVs. The attack on the US aircraft carrier involved a large number of drones and cruise missiles, he specified.
In this way, Saria added, it was possible to thwart a major air attack on Yemen, which the US military forces were preparing at the time.
The Houthis began striking ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in November 2023 as a protest against Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip. In January 2024, the US and UK launched attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen, claiming that the strikes are defensive in nature as they are carried out to protect international vessels.
