Lavrov: Russia and Africa to strengthen cooperation despite Western counteractions

10.11.2024, Sochi.

The trade volume between Russia and Africa reached a historic high, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on November 10 during the plenary session of the first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, which was broadcasted on the Roscongress Foundation’s website.

Lavrov noted that trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Africa is progressing well.

“We have reached a historic maximum trade turnover of $24.5 billion, but it is clear that this figure does not reflect our full potential, which needs to be fully realized,” Lavrov said.

He added that despite artificial barriers from the collective West, Russia and Africa continue to enhance business support mechanisms, find effective logistics solutions, and employ new tools for mutual settlements that are independent of negative external interference.

Lavrov highlighted that sectoral and humanitarian ties between Russia and African countries are also developing dynamically. To support his statement, he pointed out that 18 panel discussions were held during the ministerial conference. The topics covered a wide range of issues, including the peaceful use of space, ensuring security, developing key sectors of trade and economic cooperation, workforce training, healthcare, mass media, youth contacts, and more.
