Slovakia opposes Ukraine’s NATO membership

07.10.2024, Bratislava.

Slovakia does not support Ukraine’s accession to NATO, stated Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico during a broadcast on STVR.

“As long as I am the head of the Slovak government… members of parliament… will never agree to Ukraine’s membership in NATO because it would lead to World War III,” he said.

It is worth noting that the previous day, the Financial Times wrote, citing its sources, that the West is considering a scenario where Ukraine could join NATO in exchange for giving up some of its territories.

A meeting of the Contact Group on military assistance to Ukraine will be held on October 12 at the level of heads of state and government at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
