Will the West open a “second front” against Russia in Moldova? Opinion

16.04.2024, Moscow.

Moldova is the most suitable candidate for the West to organize a second front against Russia, according to the report from the theater of war, published in The Essence of Time newspaper, issue 581.

Former US Assistant Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Bryen said in early April that Moldova could become a springboard for NATO if Ukraine loses the conflict with Russia.

At the same time, he noted that using Moldova in this context is problematic, as the country is divided between pro-Russian forces and supporters of the republic’s accession to the European Union.

“The West desperately needs a second front against Russia, and Moldova, alas, is the most suitable candidate in the current situation.

However, the ‘second front’ does not necessarily have to be another theater of military operations – it could be an economic war or a confrontation in cyberspace,” The Essence of Time editorial reads.
