Should Russia negotiate Ukraine on the West’s terms? Opinion

10.04.2024, Moscow.

The West softened the conditions for talks with Russia on settling the conflict in Ukraine to buy time, according to the report from the theater of war, published in The Essence of Time newspaper,  issue 580.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said at the end of March that negotiations with Russia would be possible if the Ukrainian armed units reached the 2022 borders. Earlier, he said that negotiations were possible only if the Ukrainian armed units reached the 1991 borders, i.e. if Ukraine seized both the Donbass and Crimea.

“Zelensky is voicing what is dictated to him by the West, which wants to buy time at the cost of ceding someone else’s territory. It’s not in Russia’s interest,” The Essence of Time editorial reads.
