Russian Navy uses Pantsir-M naval air defense system for the first time

08.04.2024, Moscow.

The Pantsir-M naval air defense system was used for the first time to repel an attack on ships in the zone of Russia’s special military operation, Oleg Ryazantsev, general director of the High-Precision Complexes holding company, said April 7 on the air of the Zvezda TV channel.

During the program “Military Acceptance” Ryazantsev, in particular, said, “The ship, while on combat duty, hit Storm Shadow missiles. That is, we can already talk about the first effective successful use of the Pantsir-M serial system.”

According to open sources, only small missile ships of Project 22800 Karakurt are currently equipped with Pantsir-M systems.

The Pantsir-M naval air defense system was adopted into service in 2018 to replace the previously used Kortik-M system developed in the 1980s.

Compared to the Kortik-M, the Pantsir-M air defense system has twice the range and can engage targets at more than twice the altitude.

Storm Shadow missiles belong to the class of low-observable air-launched cruise missiles, have a range of up to 560 km and a warhead weighing up to 450 kg.
