Israel urgently withdraws most of its troops from the southern Gaza Strip

07.04.2024, Israel.

All Israel Defense Forces (IDF) army units except the Nahal Army Brigade have been withdrawn from the southern Gaza Strip, The Jerusalem Post reported on April 7.

The publication reports that the Nahal Brigade will continue to secure the corridor between southern Israel and the Gaza coast.

According to the IDF, the 98th Division’s withdrawal occurred because their presence is not needed in Khan Younis and will continue to conduct spot raids based on intelligence.

The Israel Defense Forces notes that the movement of troops is not related to political demands from US President Joe Biden.

Note that the operation near the town of Khan Younis began on December 1 and six months after the start of the operation against Hamas. On March 24, the IDF launched a new offensive against the positions of Hamas in the area of “Al-Amal” in the west of the city of Khan Younis.

On April 5, the US President Joe Biden said in a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US may end its support for Israel if the course of action in the Gaza Strip is not changed.
