NPP director: Zaporozhye NPP has enough water to ensure safety

04.03.2024, Melitopol.

The water reserve for cooling the units of Zaporozhye NPP (ZNPP) is sufficient to ensure its safety, despite a drop in the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir due to the destruction of its dam, plant director Yuriy Chernichuk said on March 4.

“There is enough water at the plant to ensure safety and cooling of the units as of today,” he said.

Earlier, the issue of cooling of ZNPP units was raised during the last visit to the plant by IAEA head Rafael Grossi, who expressed concern about the plant’s sufficient water supply for cooling.

Chernichuk noted that the IAEA head was told about the technical condition of the plant and presented a plan of measures that the plant plans to carry out together with the Rosenergoatom enterprise to compensate for losses caused by the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovka reservoir.

“In my opinion, Mr. Grossi left satisfied in this part,” added the ZNPP director.

Chernichuk also emphasized that ZNPP personnel is fully prepared to ensure technological safety of the plant. “We understand completely the whole process of personnel training. In terms of technological safety and its provision, I am confident in the people who work here, there is no doubts about them. In terms of war – there are fears and they are not going anywhere,” he noted.
