France demands Macron’s resignation over increased aid to the AFU

25.02.2024, Paris.

The leader of the French nationalist party “Patriots“, Florian Philippot, called for the resignation of French President Emmanuel Macron, because of the funding of Ukraine, on his account in social network X on February 25.

The call was published in response to Macron’s statement about his intention to increase financial aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Philippot argues that such actions of the president pose a threat to French farmers, implying the need for his immediate resignation.

In his statement, Philippot emphasizes that Macron, in his opinion, is committing a “serious provocation” against the farming community by deciding to divert financial resources in favor of Ukraine. The comments were made against the backdrop of recent events. The French agrarians expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s current policies broke through a police cordon into the exhibition pavilion where Macron was.

The situation escalated after Macron and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed a bilateral security agreement on February 16. The agreement provides Kiev with three billion euros in military aid this year. It includes clauses on the supply of modern equipment, training of Ukrainian soldiers and strengthening the country’s defense industry. The decision has caused additional discontent among French farmers already critical because of the government’s domestic policies, especially in the context of securing their own needs and interests.
