China will protect its business activities abroad with PMCs. Opinion

Chinese business activities abroad require protection, and Beijing will protect them with the help of private military companies, according to the report from the theater of war, published in The Essence of Time newspaper, Issue 567.

Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post newspaper says China intends to gradually develop its private military companies to provide security for overseas projects in unstable regions of the world.

According to the newspaper, Beijing’s ability to conduct operations abroad is now severely limited. China has only one foreign base – on the east coast of Africa in Djibouti. Therefore, Chinese firms are interested in PMCs’ services.

“Now there are 47 thousand Chinese companies operating outside the PRC, with a total of 4.1 million employees, including 1.6 million Chinese citizens. Beijing’s total investment in 190 countries in 2022 was estimated at $2.75 trillion.

With increasing instability and tensions around the globe, and primarily in the Middle East, the issue of protecting Chinese investments and personnel abroad has become urgent. And PMCs seem to be a rather convenient tool,” The Essence of Time editorial reads.
