It’s official: Five new countries join BRICS

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates officially joined the BRICS member countries as of January 1, 2024, Interfax wrote.

Argentina was also among the candidates to join BRICS, but on December 29, the country’s authorities notified the leaders of the BRICS member states of their decision not to join the association.

Earlier, President Vladimir Putin in his address on the occasion of the beginning of Russia’s representation in BRICS in 2024 emphasized that the main areas of work in the new year will be to enhance the role of BRICS in the international monetary and financial system, foreign policy cooperation among the BRICS members, as well as the development of relations in the spheres of politics, economics and culture.
