The list of candidates to replace Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, considered by the EU, has become known to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), its press service said on December 11.
Possible successors to Zelensky as Ukrainian president were considered on the sidelines of a meeting of the EU foreign ministers in November, the statement reads.
The list included the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny, the head of the Ukrainian army’s Main Intelligence Directorate Kirill Budanov, the head of the president’s office Andrey Yermak, Zelensky’s former adviser Aleksey Arestovych and Kiev mayor Vitaliy Klitschko.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny said in an interview with The Economist that the Ukrainian army’s offensive was mired in minefields and that the entire conflict in Ukraine had reached a deadlock.
The Ukrainian armed units conducted a counter-offensive for several months now. However, its successes are questionable. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the counter-offensive had failed.
An adviser to the head of Zelenskyy’s office Mikhail Podolyak, said that Ukrainian society had accumulated hard questions about what was happening on the front.
