Does Germany use migrants to undermine Italy’s elected government?

27.09.2023, Rome.

From the military attack on other countries during World War II, Germany has now switched to the use of migrants for this purpose. Andrea Crippa, deputy general secretary of the League party, said this on Tuesday, the Italian news agency ANSA reported on September 26.

The comments came amid controversy over Berlin’s decision to fund non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working to rescue migrants at sea and those helping them in Italy.

On Monday, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in a letter to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that she was “astonished” that Berlin had made the decision without consulting the Italian government, the agency recalled.

“They are trying to destabilize the government by funding NGOs to flood our country with illegal immigrants and weaken support for the center-right coalition in Italy,” the publication further quoted an excerpt from an interview with Crippa with the online newspaper Affaritaliani.it.

“Eighty years ago, the German government decided to invade other states with the army, but it ended badly. Now they finance the invasion of illegal immigrants to destabilize governments that the Social Democrats don’t like.”

“It’s obvious that the German government doesn’t want the center-right to run Italy. They are doing everything to embarrass the Italian government in the hope of overthrowing it,” the publication quoted the politician as saying.
