European policy in Africa results in a migration crisis. Opinion

The aggressive neoliberal policy of the European Union in Africa provoked a migration crisis in Europe itself. Kirill Logvinov, a Russian diplomat and acting permanent representative of Russia to the EU, stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti on September 26.

According to him, the head of the European Parliament, Josep Borrell, admitted that the European policy on the African continent has failed, and Russia fully agrees with his opinion.

Logvinov called the main reason for such failures the continuation of the old colonizing policy of the West towards African countries and the unwillingness to revise it.

“The main reason, in our opinion, is obvious. It is Brussels’ unwillingness to abandon the neo-colonial practices used by the West, manifested in financial and economic pressure on African countries, aggressive promotion of neo-liberal attitudes, extorting natural, economic, intellectual resources from former colonies,” he said.

In his opinion, such a policy of the West, among other things, “provoked the migration crisis, which is already threatening to become one of the most serious tests of the strength of the entire European Union”.

However, according to the Russian diplomat, the West is not in a hurry to revise its relations with Africa and start building them “on a mutually respectful and equal basis,” but is looking for someone “on the side” to blame for its mistakes.

That is why the EU’s intention “to give a new impetus to cooperation with Africa will remain a beautiful slogan,” Logvinov concluded.
