Kurginyan: The army has been unable to hold Kharkov, so PMCs were sent into the fight

24.07.2023, Aleksandrovskoye.

The Wagner private military company (PMC) ended up in Ukraine due to the phenomenal failure of the official military machine near Kharkov, said philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on July 11 in the author’s program Destiny.

Wagner PMC, which has built its war fighting experience in Syria and Africa, ended up in Ukraine in 2022, recalled the political scientist. He explained that the most likely reason for PMCs participation in the special military operation in Ukraine was the “phenomenal failure” of the Russian army, which went through Anatoly Serdyukov’s military reforms in the previous years.

“The apotheosis of such a failure, of course, was the retreat from Kharkov,” he explained.

According to Sergey Kurginyan, you have to be “out of your mind” or completely out of touch with the subject matter in order to view the retreat from Kharkov as an example of a brilliant military strategy, something that was planned in advance.

This shameful retreat “in essence, led to the following mobilization and many other outcomes, including this”, believes Kurginyan. As a result, decisions were made to hold the military mobilization and the widespread use of PMCs in this theater of military operations. At the same time, PMCs were given unlimited powers and permission to recruit prisoners.

According to Kurginyan, since then, about 50 thousand fighters had entered the Ukrainian conflict as part of the PMC, and they are controlled and commended by twenty or so highly skilled military professionals. As it turned out that PMCs as well as Chechen units of Ramzan Kadyrov were controllable, unlike the army.

“At the beginning of the special military operation, the army demonstrated poor command and control skills: it was large, lazy, not focused, not at all built to ‘catch mice’, stuffed with people who treat their profession as a peculiar way of enrichment,” Kurginyan explained the existing reasons for the poor command and control structure in the modern Russian army.

According to the analyst, PMC have a different, not a general military management approach, as well as a different type of personnel, and at the moment it worked. “They showed its effectiveness in contrast to loose bureaucratic official management methods, lack of discipline, and dysfunction,” concluded the leader of the Essence of Time movement.
