The USA and NATO should consider that not only Russia is interested in the Arctic, but also China, according to a summary from the theater of war published in The Essence of Time newspaper, no. 538.
US Admiral Michael Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations, said that the Pentagon intends to pay more attention to the Arctic. According to him, this region is becoming an area of global competition. The USA is planning to hold international military exercises in the Arctic.
Gilday also noted that after Sweden and Finland become members of NATO, almost all members of the Arctic Council will be part of the alliance. The Arctic Council includes Denmark, Canada, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the United States.
“The Arctic is first of all the Northern Sea Route, one of the most important transport arteries of the nearest future. In which China is interested no less than Russia,” The Essence of Time editorial reads.
