Russia has never been a successor to Troy in contrast to the West whose identity is based on its succession to ancient Rome, philosopher and political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on May 13 on the Right to Know program on TVC.
The philosopher noted that, according to The Aeneid by ancient Roman poet Virgil, Rome is the successor to Troy. In the Trojan War, the ancient Rome fought with the Trojans against the Achaeans.
Kurginyan reminded that when the Romans attacked and obliterated Greek cities they wrote on plates “Revenge for Troy.” According to the analyst, it is Troy that is the basis of the Western identity.
Russia, however, the expert stressed, has a different identity. “The idea is that we, Russia, are not Troy,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement believes.
The Aeneid poem by Virgil (29-19 B.C.E.) depicts the story of Aeneas, a legendary Trojan hero, who settled in Italy after Troy fell. According to Virgil, Aeneas’ successors were Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome. Virgil wrote this poem at the request of Emperor Octavian Augustus (63 B.C.E. – 14 C.E.), the first and one of the greatest emperors of the Roman Empire. According to The Aeneid, Augustus was Aeneas’ descendant, which gave the imperial Rome a special identity and special rights.
