Kurginyan explains the basis for Western hatred of Russia

25.05.2023, Aleksandrovskoye.

The great Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov believed that the origins of Ancient Rus’ should be sought in Paphlagonia, said philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on May 13 on the Right to Know program on the TVC channel.

The political scientist pointed to the difference in the identity origins between the West and Russia. Western identity is based on the Trojan heritage and Aeneas, the Trojan war leader, whose descendants founded Rome, he noted.

In order to find the origins of Rus’, the analyst suggested taking a closer look at the concept that belongs to Mikhail Lomonosov, the great scientist, who is very important to Russia. Kurginyan explained that, according to Lomonosov, Rus’ takes its origins in Paphlagonia, the northern region of modern Turkey.

“Paphlagonia is a region on the north-central coast of Anatolia; the way it is sticking out into the Black Sea, to me, as a geologist, is very strongly associated with Crimea. It is located on the same ridge under the water. According to Lomonosov, Rus’ comes from Paphlagonia, then it continued onto Venice, and from Venice to the Baltic,” the philosopher explained.

According to Kurginyan, Boris Rybakov, Russian and Soviet archaeologist, historian, academician adhered to the same concept.

“So why are we just neglecting all this? We don’t have to immediately subscribe to it. But, it belongs to historiosophy as a concept, to the part that was absolutely not marginal, in the final analysis. Why would Lomonosov be a marginal figure? On the contrary, maybe it’s the German professors who are outcasts?” – continued Kurginyan.

The expert recalled the story of how Lomonosov received the highest order to provide historical materials to Voltaire, who wrote the history of Rus’. “But Lomonosov is bigger than Voltaire, it’s obvious!” said the leader of the Essence of Time movement.

In his work the Ancient Russian History, Lomonosov considers Antenor of Troy, an adviser to King Priam, as the starting point of ancient Russian history. After the collapse of Troy, Antenor joined with the army that left Paphlagonia to support the Trojans. Lomonosov believes that this progenitor of ancient Russian history with his soldiers reached the places where modern Padua and Venice are located. Then Antenor’s followers became the Veneti.

Since the relationship between Antenor and Aeneas was very complicated, the descendants of Aeneas ousted the descendants of Antenor, who became Venets, from Italy, and they went north to the Baltic. There, the Venets, according to Lomonosov, formed the ancient Varangians of the Rus’, who are not Varangians from the North. Thus, Lomonosov’s theory contradicted to the established Norman theory of the origin of Rus’.
