FSB foils attempts on Crimean top officials’ lives

03.05.2023, Simferopol.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation prevented the preparation for an attempt on the head of Crimea Sergey Aksenov by the Ukrainian military intelligence service. The FSB Center for Public Relations (CPR) informed about this on May 3 on the official website.

It is assumed that the targets of the agent network of the Main Directorate of Defense Intelligence of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry (GUR) were the head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov, chairman of the Crimean Parliament Vladimir Konstantinov, and Yalta mayor Yanina Pavlenko.

Terrorist attacks were also prepared against the transport infrastructure of the peninsula.

The FSB found that Roman Mashovets, the organizer of the terrorist attacks and coordinator of preparations for the murder of high-ranking officials since 2020, is the deputy head of the office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. At the same time, Mashovets is an officer of the acting reserve of the Ukrainian GUR.

FSB officers seized from the saboteurs the means to conduct surveillance and communication equipment, which provides secure channels of communication with their supervisors from the Main Directorate of Defense Intelligence of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

Five explosive devices ready for use were also seized. Some of them were made on the principle of cumulative impact, the other – on the principle of concentrated charge. In addition to parts for the manufacture of explosive devices with remote detonation capability, an explosive substance manufactured in the United Kingdom was found at the site.

The FSB informed that the seized explosives were identical to those used for the bombing of railroad tracks in Crimea.
