Former leader of the Left Party (Die Linke) Oskar Lafontaine blamed the USA for the conflict in Ukraine, the Märkische Allgemeine newspaper wrote on March 22.

According to the politician, the USA “is very and very much involved in this [escalation of the conflict in Ukraine – Rossa Primavera News Agency].

Lafontaine stressed that the very fact that Washington has created “missile bases next to Russia” destabilizes the situation in the world. On an ARD talk show, Lafontaine called the US defense minister a minister of war.

The politician claims that the USA is not interested in establishing peace in Ukraine. Lafontaine stressed that USA Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has openly stated that he wants a long war. “And I take that seriously,” Lafontaine explained.

The former Die Linke head explained that he and his wife, Bundestag member Sahra Wagenknecht, do not want “Germany to get more and more involved in the war.”

Sahra Wagenknecht together with human rights activist Alice Schwarzer wrote a petition “Manifesto for Peace” with a call to stop arms supplies to Ukraine and start peace talks. The petition gathered 650,000 votes online.

On February 25, Wagenknecht and Schwarzer held a rally For Peace against Nazism, NATO and Arms Supplies to Ukraine, which was attended by more than 50,000 Berliners.
