China has no intention of using force against Taiwan, but the US is pushing it to do so, according to a summary from the war theater in the Essence of Time newspaper No. 524.
In late February, CIA head William Burns said that China’s uncertainty about the possibility of an invasion of Taiwan had increased due to developments in Ukraine. Doubts about Beijing’s resolve for a military operation against Taiwan were also expressed by US Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth.
At the same time, Burns noted that the threat of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan should be taken seriously. In his view, the risks of starting a Sino-Taiwan conflict will increase over time.
“The most respected Russian Sinologists believe that a forceful takeover of Taiwan is so unlikely that there is no point in even discussing it. Another thing is if the US wants (and it already does) to drag China into a full-fledged regional war, with Japan and South Korea being the main proxies. There is no other way for the US to prevent China’s hegemony. A war will cover it all…” – says an editorial in the Essence of Time newspaper.
