Azerbaijan is the only Transcaucasian country that urged to condemn Russia for its policy in Ukraine, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on February 8 on the air of the Union channel of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
The political scientist urged to look at the actions of Azerbaijan in the context of Turkey’s strategic pivot from Kemalism to pan-Turkism.
“We cannot keep it out of our agenda that one of the few Transcaucasian countries directly said that Russia must be condemned,” the analyst noted.
“Whom exactly [should be condemned], could they clarify? Please provide more detail on this,” Kurginyan ironically said.
He noted that Russia has so far been able to maintain balance and get along with Turkey and Azerbaijan.
“But is it for long? And what will happen when we lose it?” the leader of the Essence of Time movement wonders.
After Recep Tayyip Erdoğan came to power in Turkey, the country dramatically changed its strategy. It abandoned the principles established by its first president Kemal Atatürk: the inviolability of the country’s borders, the Western path of development, and convergence with Europe. Erdoğan advocates for neo-Ottomanism and pan-Turkism, which implies the restoration of the Ottoman Empire and the uniting of all the Turkish-speaking peoples. The Azerbaijani belong to the Turkish peoples.
