Kurginyan: The myth about the power of the Abrams tanks was blatant disinformation

30.01.2023, Moscow.

The myth about the power of the Western tanks was created after the wars in Iraq, although the victory of the West over Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with the Abrams tanks and other military equipment, said political scientist, philosopher and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan in an interview to Anna Shafran on the Zvezda radio station published on January 27 on YouTube,

The host reminded that military theorist Carl von Clausewitz introduced the concept of “the fog of war,” and he explained that war is a field of uncertainty, and the parties often face a different situation than they expected. Shafran asked the political scientist whether the current situation around the Western tanks is an attempt to side-track attention to a useless subject or something else.

Kurginyan explained that von Clausewitz meant the complexity faced by those who studied the military game theory: instead of a subject-obect relationship, which often takes place in normal science, you have a subject-subject relationship, which is called a game relationship.

And the entire war is based on this subject-subject interaction when two subjects are trying to fool each other and each wants to do it better than his opponent. (…) They seek to deceive and to hurt, this is the idea, he said.

He told that a similar deception has been promoted around the Abrams and the Leopard tanks. According to Kurginyan, the myth about their unmatched capabilities appeared after the two wars in Iraq where the West accumulated thousands of vehicles of the Abrams class.

To fight Saddam Hussein’s army, thousands of these Abrams tanks were necessary. A special secret was when they were burnt or when they sank in the sands, which happened, too, the political scientist noted.

He explained that, as Hussein’s army suffered a brilliant defeat by the US, they said that the Abrams tanks won.

This is one of the most blatant acts of disinformation in the theory of wars. The Abrams tanks were absolutely irrelevant. (…) Saddam Hussein was defeated because his elite was bought and persuaded not to resist. Not the Abrams tanks but billions of dollars and intelligence special operations ensured the victory in Iraq. And this is clear now, the political scientist stressed.
