The possibility of transferring Leopard tanks to Ukraine is currently not considered by Spain, Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said on January 17 during a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum (WEF).
“Madrid cannot supply ‘Leopard’ tanks at the moment,” said Albares.
At the same time, the head of the Spanish Foreign Ministry stressed that at the next round of the meeting in Ramstein, which will be held on January 20, “important decisions will be taken” on the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
On August 2, 2022, Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles said that the kingdom will not supply tanks to Ukraine. According to the defense minister, the tanks in storage must be brought to combat readiness. Robles estimated that more than €100 billion would be needed for restoration procedures.
