15.01.2023, Berlin.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expects to announce new military assistance from the Western countries for Ukraine after the contact group meeting in the US Ramstein air base. He said this in an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblatt on January 15.

“I expect that we will be able to declare new military assistance,” Stoltenberg said.

He said he welcomed decisions by Washington and Berlin to send IFVs to Ukraine, as well as France’s willingness to transfer light tanks to Kiev. The alliance secretary general expressed confidence that other allies would also announce new military assistance.

The issue of sending German Leopard 2 tanks will be one of the topics discussed at the meeting in Ramstein, Stoltenberg noted.

A meeting of the NATO contact group on assistance to Ukraine will be held at the Ramstein military base in Germany on January 20. Earlier, Washington said that NATO was preparing to send to Kiev 50 Bradley IFVs, 100 M113 armoured personnel carriers, 18 155 mm self-propelled howitzers, and 40 Marder IFVs.
