Russian-speaking Islamist fighters arrived in Ukraine from Syria’s Idlib via Turkey, expert at the Russian International Affairs Council (RSMD) Kirill Semyonov said on November 1 on his Telegram channel.
“Fighters of terrorist jihadist organizations from Idlib have already arrived in Ukraine. And this is a fact,” the expert wrote.
According to Semenov, these militants adhere to “direct action actions,” that is, terrorist attacks against civilians. It is possible that they will be active not only in the ranks of the Ukrainian armed units, but also “try to revive hidden cells in the Russian Federation,” the specialist noted.
The militants could get to Ukraine only through Turkey, the RSMD expert is convinced. In this regard, the Russian authorities should send corresponding notes of protest and appeals to the Turkish side, because “this is really a real threat, not a high-profile topic,” Semyonov stressed.
