Russian President Vladimir Putin has been trying to combine a liberal market economy with a strong state throughout his presidency, stated political scientist, philosopher, leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan in The Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov program on Russia 1 TV channel on October 27.
“Let’s call things by their proper names. Throughout this entire era, Putin has tried to do one thing – he has tried to combine a liberal market economy with a strong statehood, and that’s it. This is the formula of Putinism,” said Kurginyan.
The political scientist stressed that Russia was diligently moving toward building a classical conservative modernity, but, in his opinion, it is no longer possible to achieve this in the current environment.
“We are trying to become a country of classical conservative modernity. So, I would be happy if we were, but it will not happen,” says the philosopher.
According to the political scientist, in the new conditions, Russia will not be able to exist, moving within the framework of already existing concepts. The country needs to look for its own way of development, the philosopher believes.
“In the new historical conditions this formula is impossible. It contradicts the new pressures [on Russia]. <…> There is this world of conservative modernity, and it is Chinese and other Asian. There is this world of Western postmodernity. There is the obviously US-sponsored anti-modernist archaism, including ISIS (an organization banned in Russia), and so on. And there is something that we need to take, that we need to bring into the world to make it sustainable. And this is something really Russian, this is the new message,” Kurginyan concluded.
