Kurginyan explains what it takes to really mobilize society

19.10.2022, Aleksandrovskoye.

Russian society is not ready to listen to simple and clichéd explanations of the reasons for mobilization, says Sergey Kurginyan, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, in his original program Destiny, published on the movement’s official YouTube channel on October 14.

Our society is much smarter than some people think. It doesn’t forget anything. And another factor in the fact that the mobilization is not going quite the way we would like it to go is that society doesn’t understand what’s actually going on. It has questions,” Kurginyan explained.

He stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is absolutely correct in calling the West a stronghold of Satanism, but people still remember that just recently the Western world was extremely appealing to both society and the Russian elite.

For a very long time this [Western] world was for Russian society and the Russian elite the holy of holies – Mecca and Medina, to which one should want to go, where not only business trips were made, but also literally, so to speak, a pilgrimage. And we were supposed to strive towards it in every possible way,” reminded the political scientist.

According to him, people are waiting for an explanation about when the situation changed so dramatically, and where the new way is headed.

When the relevant questions arose: ‘Where are we going,’ and so on? You have to answer it, you have to say, ‘We made a mistake,’” Kurginyan described the normal logic of changing paths.

The leader of the Essence of Time movement also warned against the well-known fallacy that admitting mistakes means the weakness of power. He recalled that the enormous excesses of collectivization in the USSR were first recognized in Stalin’s article “Dizzy with Success,” and then began to correct them.

They [modern publicity specialists] don’t understand it. For them everything is political technology, in the same way that ‘everything is digital,’ ‘everything is a quantity,’” the political scientist explained.

Put aside your tone and take a human tone! Be honest about the mistakes made and explain their nature. No one will say “down with you!” after that. On the contrary, society will not be disappointed – it will mobilize. It is disappointed that it is not being told the truth,” explained the political scientist.

Kurginyan stressed that there is another problem with this kind of silence: sooner or later, people will discover the uncomfortable truth. But people will not follow the person who is suppressing the truth. They will simply stop responding to the appeals of the authorities.

Don’t keep referring all the time to Gorbachev with his, so to speak, consent to the actual expansion of NATO. Or to Yeltsin. These processes continued even afterwards [and after them]. Why did they continue?” – the political scientist asked.

He added that the society should be given a clear plan of how the authorities are going to change this situation and what they are going to do about it. After this, words must be followed up by real actions, Kurginyan concluded.
