Russian air defense forces repulsed an attack by the Ukrainian army on Kherson, deputy head of the Kherson regional administration Kirill Stremousov said on September 23 on air of Channel One Russia.
“This morning an attempt by [Ukrainian] nationalists to shell Kherson was repelled by the air defense system,” he said.
Stremousov called security the main priority.
On September 23, referendums, in which the residents of the regions will decide on their future, in the LPR, DPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions began. Voting will last until September 27.
Since 24 February, Russia has been carrying out a special operation to denazify Ukraine. As part of the operation, the LPR and Kherson Region were liberated, as well as significant territories of the DPR and Zaporozhye region. The authorities of the liberated territories decided to hold referendums among the population on the issue of joining Russia.
