Does Kiev want to distract the Russian Armed Forces from Kramatorsk with rumors of an offensive in Kherson region?

02.07.2022, Moscow.

Rumors of a counterattack by the Ukrainian army near Kherson are intended to distract Russian troops from the southern direction – Soledar and Kramatorsk, according to the editorial “Russia Left Alone. Is Ukraine Preparing an Offensive?” published in The Essence of Time newspaper.

“Groups close to Kiev regime are actively spreading the news of a counterattack by the Ukrainian army to raise morale among soldiers and civilians, as well as to demonstrate to the West that the weapons it supplies are being used in the right way and effectively,” the newspaper recalls.

Kiev may choose the direction of Kherson as the most probable one for a counterattack attempt. This is necessary for the Kiev authorities to prevent a referendum on the joining of the Kherson region to the Russian Federation, after which these new Russian territories can be captured [by Ukraine] only under the threat of nuclear weapons usage.

At the same time, the Ukrainian army has no successful experience in such combat operations, and if Kiev took a risk of launching the offensive, it could result in enormous human losses. In such a case, the failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive near Kherson will undermine the military’s strength for further combat operations.

“It is possible that the only purpose of such statements is to force Russia to preserve the maximum number of Russian troops in the southern direction, preventing them from strengthening the onslaught near Soledar, Bakhmut, Kramatorsk and on the entire eastern front,” the editorial reads.
