The death toll of the strike on the detention center in Yelenovka (DPR) carried out by Ukrainian militants has risen to 53, the Headquarters of the Donetsk People’s Republic reported on July 29.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that on the night of July 29, the Ukrainian army fired HIMARS rockets at the detention center in Yelenovka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war, including Nazis from the Azov battalion (organization banned in Russia), were held.

According to the Headquarters’ preliminary data, 40 people were killed and 75 were injured. Among the wounded were eight staff members of the detention center.

The head of the DPR Denis Pushilin stated that this war crime may be connected with the fact that the captured Ukrainian fighters began to testify.
