Russian Security Council Secretary explains why Finland and Sweden will join NATO

24.05.2022, Moscow.

Finland and Sweden will be accepted into NATO, despite Turkey’s and Croatia’s objection, “because Washington has decided so,” said Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Argumenty i Fakty reported on May 24.

Patrushev said, “Finland, together with Sweden, were persuaded to join NATO ostensibly for their own security. Turkey and Croatia have objected, but I think that Helsinki and Stockholm will be accepted into the organization anyway because Washington and Brussels which is under the control of Washington have decided so.”

According to him, the will of other nations and allies does not interest the USA, although perhaps many residents of these countries understand “what a venture they are being pushed into.”

He noted that NATO is no longer a defensive, but “a purely aggressive offensive military alliance.” Membership in it implies the transfer of a large part of state sovereignty to Washington.

If NATO is building military infrastructure on the territory of Finland and Sweden, Russia will consider it a direct threat to its security and is obliged to react to this.
