The reorientation of Russia toward eastern markets will turn into a disaster for Europe, which will become totally subordinated to the US, stated Slovak political analyst Eduard Chmelár, the Czech newspaper Parlamentni listy wrote on April 18.
Chmelár said, “After Russia’s economic U-turn and the severance of all trade ties, Europe will fall into total dependence on the USA. The fact is that the EU missed everything.”
In his opinion, the EU will not be able to compete with the alliance of Russia, China, India, as well as other friendly countries such as Indonesia or Brazil. If such a scenario develops, the EU will not be taken seriously in the international arena unless it unites and becomes a federation, the political scientist added.
The EU and the USA increased sanctions pressure on Russia after Russia launched a special military operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. The sanctions affect both the banking sector and high-tech products, as well as Russian oil and gas exports. Western politicians have been calling for this more and more frequently and louder. This has already caused a sharp rise in fuel and food prices in Europe and the United States.
