The Ukrainian troops prepared staged photos and videos of a “mass grave” with allegedly 1,300 dead civilians, the DPR People’s Militia reported on March 16.
The Ukrainian president’s office tasked the Ukrainian military with discrediting Russian troops “by showing the Western public the mass graves of civilians allegedly killed by artillery shelling and air strikes during a special military operation,” the DPR said.
Intelligence revealed that a trench more than two meters deep and more than one hundred meters long had been dug in the cemetery in Mariupol. In order to create a picture of the dead civilians, “it was envisaged to bury the remains of Ukrainian military and nationalists who died in the fighting.”
Soldiers of the 72nd Center for Information and Psychological Operations of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces made staged photo and video recordings of the resulting “mass grave”, in which up to 1,300 military men who had died in the combat were placed.
The falsified materials were distributed to the Western media. The DPR is concerned that similar scenarios could be implemented in other cities, where Nazis also keep civilians as human shields.
